The most exciting news I've heard recently is from a paleontologist in the UK: substantial evidence suggests that eurypterids (more specifically, Carcinosomatoidea) are a basal group of scorpions. In other words, to some extent, eurypterids did not go extinct; they have continued to the present day as scorpions, similar to the relationship between Dinosauria and modern birds.
